My 10 by 10 Farm Plot

My 10 by 10 Farm Plot

It is interesting how Jesus used many parables and allegories relating to farming. One day I was in a class; I do not remember what the topic was about, but I began doodling. My wife teases me about the numerous certificates I have. Needless to say, I know a little bit about a few things. That is a literal statement and the little bit may be exaggerated. While I was in this class that dealt with basic principles of Scripture and how it applies to our lives, I was taking a course in Horticulture. The instructor had us, as a part of the course, start with a plot of soil that we bordered 10 by 10 feet and that had not been tilled.  On the day I am referring to in the basic principle class, I reflected on my life and God’s sovereign hand in it. In this reflection, I saw my 10 by 10 farm plot (my life) and this is what I wrote.

My garden started out as an unfruitful plot. It was full of weeds and nutgrass (one of the worst type of weed). Ironic that my plot had a weed that is described as “horrifically resilient.” The seeds of the nutgrass seemed to be innumerable in the soil. {My life started out unfruitful. It was full of wickedness, and as I grew, I became indoctrinated with the world. The world’s influence was the seeds planted by the enemy of my soul.} In order to begin to transform my plot, I had to shape and border the plot to fit the dimensions of 10 feet by 10 feet. {In my life, the Lord is my Gardener who shaped me and set borders not allowing me to transgress to total destruction.} Just like I had to deal with the soil in my plot by uprooting weeds and tending to it to produce fruit , God did the same in my life. The process of transformation is tedious and toilsome just like this journey called life. But I am so grateful that God had mercy and compassion on me for he told Moses “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” Romans 9:15

Today I have a song in my heart and it says Praise the Lord, O my soul PRAISE THE LORD. Psalm 146:1 My soul was the soil in my 10 by 10-foot plot.
